Macintosh Certification through CompuMaster

On June 14th, I received a certificate of completion from CompuMaster (www.compumaster.net) for successfully passing an intense three day course on troubleshooting and maintaining Macintosh computer systems.

Upon completion of this course, I am eligible to receive 18 contact hours from an accrediting authority, according to standards set by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training.

The course covered three broad areas: hardware troubleshooting, software troubleshooting and maintenance, and networking.

Hardware Troubleshooting

The main focus of this section was on diagnosing and correcting problems related to hardware. Areas covered included SCSI and ATA buses, troubleshooting hard drives, bus topologies, peripherals and interfaces.

Softwareware Troubleshooting and Maintenance

The main focus of the section was on diagnosing and correcting problems related to software, particularly on pre-OS X systems. Areas covered included extensions conflicts, interpreting error codes, memory management and routing maintenance schedules for optimizing system performance.

Networking

The main focus of the section was on diagnosing and correcting problems related to software, particularly on pre-OS X systems. Areas covered included networing protocols, network topologies, servers and clients for Mac OS systems, and integration with Windows NT systems.

Additional topics included creating an emergency rescue disk, disaster recovery and backup strategies. These valuable skills will help to extend the life of Macintosh systems, tune them for optimal performance, and integrate them with other machines running various operating systems.
